Reading Rooms

In today's hectic world, it's nice to have a space of your own to stop and slow down. A trend in the design world is to have a space just dedicated to that. Some call it a "library", others may call it a "study", but for the happy, middle of the road name we"ll just call it a "reading room."

The room featured below started off with a cheery yellow outdated paint on top of plastered walls. The previous owner of the home had used this room as a sun room. Our client wanted to see it transformed into her own "get-away from it all" study.

The first step in the process was to completely gut the rooms-DOWN TO THE BOARDS! Plastered walls can show every mark, every mistake.

Once the walls were down, they were then replaced with Sheetrock, bookshelves were installed and voila-you have a clean canvas!

The next step is the paint-which we'll be doing next week-so stay tuned for the finished room! The paint for this reading room is going to be "OFF BLACK" in high gloss by Farrow & Ball and ceiling paint in "Peace & Happiness" by Benjamin Moore. So excited to see how this turns out as I think this will be the "WOW" room of the house. Check out some inspiration below....

Mantels...

In the ever longing quest for the perfect mantel...we are still searching! The Memphis home that we are working on now has a mantel that needs some definite lovin'! Our first obstacle is having the mantel done in some type of "faux finish" of a stone that actually exists in nature!

Here is some inspiration...
